Slut Zone

May 24, 2011

I’ve been giving a lot of thought lately into how many dates is enough to have sex with someone without being considered a slut. Does how often you speak online or through text matter?

I think most people would agree that sleeping with someone after just having met them is a bit slutty. I mean, you don’t even know their name. But what happens when this is someone you’ve grown close to online? What if this is the person you text every morning?

Do the rules change? Is one date enough? What about web camming? Does that change things? I mean, you’re looking at each other. Right? It has to count. What about phone calls? Do they matter?

I think the level of importance goes:

Date
Web cam
Phone call
IM
Text
Email

Do you agree? So…how many emails equal a text? How many 20 minute phone calls equal one 20 minute cam session? Are these things like coins? Once you build up enough you’re out of the slutty zone?

Is there even a slutty zone? And what of the content of the conversations? I think that talking about more intimate things certainly lowers the slut threshold…no?

So many questions…so little answers.

First off, there is nothing wrong with being a slut. Beyond that, I think you’ve got most of the idea established in a reasonable manner. The biggest issue is how intimate the discourse between you and your partner is. I’ve known people who have had a number of dates with someone and still don’t know them at all, and others that know each other intimately almost entirely through IM and text. Don’t worry about having sex with someone too soon. Life is meant to be lived. Anyone who wouldn’t like you for having sex readily isn’t worth having in your life anyway. So to quote, “Just Do It!” 🙂
